Helvetica and the NYC Subway System

When I worked at Swipe Books, I tried my hardest to collect every book covering Helvetica and every book on subway maps. I have always been captivated by Vignelli’s creation of the brilliant NYC subway map and wondered how no one has made an in depth book covering it. Well, “type nut” Paul Shaw just released “Helvetica and the NYC Subway System”, a 144 page book that does just that and some.

“While the 273 illustrations in the book are bound to please the typical type-gazer, the publication also serves as much more than a fluffed up piece of eye candy. The level of detail in research for such an obscure topic is staggering.
